Abstract
This study deals with the phenomenon of semantic deviation in the Holy Quran with the security ayas (verses) as a model. It applies the pragmatic stylistic approach pointing out the most frequently used types of deviation in the Qur'anic verses, concentrating on the semantic and rhetoric role style dealing highlighting eloquence and denotation role. The study reaches at the following conclusions:
1- The semantic deviation is considered one of the most significant stylistic phenomena in modern criticism and existed in our rhetorical heritage under different names such as expansion or extension.
2- The main function of semantic deviation is present in the surprise it makes that excites the receiver and attraccts his attention to look for the secrets of this phenomenon and it
